KICKS, fists and klaps
started flying around on Saturday as a gogo and her grandkids turned on a
tenant who refused to move out.
And when gogo Alice Makwana
(75) wasn’t happy with the power of her punches, she used her
handbag.
Thirteen years ago, when
Alice’s two kids died, she decided to rent out the two back
rooms they shared in Alexandra, east of Joburg.
She said that her grandkids
would take over the place when they were adults.
But the tenant, who hasn’t
paid rent for three years, won’t move out, even
after receiving an eviction letter from the court.
Gogo Alice from Tsutsumani,
also in Alexandra, said she has to pay the municipal services for the property
because tenant Refiloe Madileng does not want to pay.
“I built those two back rooms with the money from my
two late kids,” said the gogo. Refiloe (31) said she was told not to
move out, but couldn’t say who told her that.
“You want me to move out, but where will I go?”
she asked.
Refiloe and gogo’s
family started swearing at each other and then a fight broke out.
“We asked you to leave when you were pregnant. And
today your son is walking and you are still occupying the house,”
said grandchild Fikile.
Other tenants in the yard
intervened and separated them.
Refiloe then became angry.
“You are fighting the wrong person. I’ll
show you who I am,” she said.
Gogo Alice showed the
SunTeamthe eviction letter and an affidavit signed by Refiloe, which states
that she’ll pay gogo the outstanding money.
